However, some of the activities included may also be applicable for other outdoor learning contexts.

The resource is available as a folder comprising  the following sections: Contents page; 1. General introduction; 2. Planning; 3. Curriculum Links; 4. Early Years; 5. Primary; 6. Secondary; 7. Special Needs; 8. Practical Activities; 9. References; 10. Appendices

The pack contents require some updating since its creation in 2010, but should provide some useful ideas and activities, templates and sample programmes that you can adapt and develop to fit your particular setting and group.

Good Practice Guidlines for Work Experience Placements - Careers

Created by OWL Scotland | Published 12.11.12

These Good Practice Guidelines aim to assist those industry members who might consider working in partnership with schools/colleges to provide young people with the real life experience they require, before considering the forestry & timber industry as a journey/ career path to follow.  Such experience is of benefit - to the participant host, as well as the trainee – particularly increasing understanding of the opportunities available, within an industry with an ageing workforce.  However, it is known the regulations and legislation surrounding such experience, particularly for those under 16, can be off putting – these guidelines seek to reduce the burden, and help businesses get started.

The Guidelines have been developed to provide information on the steps that should be considered by employers before offering and/or hosting work experience placement/s, and to signpost them to sources of further information and advice.  It should be noted that they are for guidance only and that reference should always be made to the appropriate authority/agency should any specific questions be raised.
