Who is this event for
Primary school teachers, early years practitioners, homeschooling parents, community and youth leaders, forest school leaders, community rangers, outdoor educators based in the Glasgow Region
What to bring:
- A Show and Tell item (an activity you use a lot, a practical top tip, a book you always refer to or an inspiration etc) or a question you want information about.
- Warm, waterproof clothing and footwear
- A bowl and cup
- A packed lunch
We want this to be an inclusive, family-friendly event. Children are welcome to come along and we will provide a supervised loose parts play for them whilst the participants are taking part in the workshops. Accompanying adults such as a partner or grandparent are also welcome to come along to play with their kids during these times that the workshop participant is busy, although this is not essential. Children and accompanying adults will be able to join the wider group for a snack and a warm drink around the fire at the end.
The Old Barn is tucked away inside Dumbreck Stables (the riding school has closed down) in Pollok Country Park on the southside of Glasgow. The address is 82 Dumbreck Road, G41 4SN. The entrance is along our "Fairy Path" - not through the stable yard. Follow the signs.
By car: Take M8 (west) from Glasgow City Centre, then M77, then first off-ramp signed Mosspark. At traffic lights turn left, then immediately right into Pollok Country Park. We have limited on-street parking for 12 cars on the right-hand verge leading up to the barn. Never park on the left as this restricts the flow of traffic. For weekend events, we will either direct you to the free car parks at Cartha Rugby Club or Lochinch playing fields. Check our Facebook page for event parking information
By bike: We love cyclists! We are on National Cycle Routes 7 and 75.
By bus: The 59 runs from Glasgow City Centre and stops on Mosspark Blvd. The 34 runs from Govan to Battlefield and stops on Dumbreck Road. From the bus stops, it's a 4-6 minute walk. During winter the access road is very dark, so you might feel more comfortable walking with a friend and/or a torch.
By train: Dumbreck station is 6 minutes from Glasgow Central on the Paisley Canal line, from which it's a pleasant 12-minute walk along the 7/75 Sustrans bike path. During winter when it is dark, opt instead to walk up Fleurs Avenue, left into Dumbreck Road and right at the next lights into the park. No Sunday service. Maxwell Park, Crossmyloof and Pollokshaws West stations run every day, are all within walking distance.
This event is organised by GROWL, in conjunction with www.jonimackayforestschool.co.uk
