Created by Argyll and Bute OWL Group | Event date 06.11.19

Matt Ritchie is the archaeologist for Scotland’s newest agency, Forestry and Land Scotland. He is coming to talk about The First Foresters – and the Mesolithic prequel Into the Wildwood (in development) – collaborating with archaeologists, ecologists, artists, designers and photographers to create a fresh take on our deep past He was also behind Outdoor Archaeological Learning, and works to promote creative archaeological visualisation. He promises an entertaining illustrated talk, looking behind the scenes of the development of this collaborative work, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions or suggest ideas. He is one of a team of national environment advisors providing advice and guidance in relation to the protection, conservation and presentation of the environment on Scotland's national forests and land. His particular interests are the methodology and visualisation of archaeological measured survey; the potential for place-based archaeology within schools and outdoor learning; and the integration of archaeology and the historic environment within wider land management and the ecosystems approach. He describes his role as to ‘top and tail’ projects: assessing cultural significance and identifying opportunities; developing and commissioning conservation work; and communicating the results to wider communities of interest. email argyllowlgroup@gmail.com for any further information
