Dock Park event - feedback

A summary of the comments provided by those attending this networking event in Dock Park, Dumfries (2015)

CPD for teachers (financed by an FEI P'ship grant)

2013 6 forest days with children from Gelston and Auchencairn Primaries. These children then hosted a CPD day to which teachers from other schools in the region were invited. Contact phoebe.marshall@btinternet.com for more details.

Families into the Forest (financed by the lottery through the cluster group)

May 2013 - June 2014
Held in the Cally Woods near Gatehouse of Fleet.
Regular whole family days in the woods plus series of evening Magical Woodland Walks.

Greenwood woodwork workshops (financed by D & G Council through the cluster group)

June and August 2012

Preschool group at Loch Arthur (financed by an FEI partnership grant)

April 2012 onwards
This group is going out twice weekly to play and learn about woods.

Bushcraft training weekend with George Yeomans

April 2012 6 attendees each day. Local forest educators learnt many new educational activities involving woods and trees. They also learnt how to harvest spruce roots, whittle a feather stick and use a group bow drill . . . .

Woodland Workshops

May - September 2011
Working with two local primary schools we ran workshops with local craftspeople using natural materials found in the woods or ground. These were interspersed with woodland activities. The end result was a ‘Forest Fair’.

Initial Forest Schools in Dumfries and Galloway

October 2010 - July 2011
1.Six sessions with a local nursery
2.Taster day for students of childcare
3.Eight sessions with a local primary
4.10 weekend and holiday days of forest school for families in Gatehouse.
5. Subsidised training for 2Forest School level 2 leaders and one in bushcraft level 3 (OCN)

Establishment of Forest School in Dalbeattie

September- February 2011
1.Eight sessions for Dalbeattie Primary including visit to local sawmill Howie's.
2.Trial sessions in Dalbeattie woods for families at weekends and in the holidays
