Good Practice Guidelines for Work Experience Placements – Careers

These Good Practice Guidelines aim to assist those industry members who might consider working in partnership with schools/colleges to provide young people with the real life experience they require, before considering the forestry & timber industry as a journey/ career path to follow.  Such experience is of benefit – to the participant host, as well as the trainee – particularly increasing understanding of the opportunities available, within an industry with an ageing workforce.  However, it is known the regulations and legislation surrounding such experience, particularly for those under 16, can be off putting – these guidelines seek to reduce the burden, and help businesses get started.

The Guidelines have been developed to provide information on the steps that should be considered by employers before offering and/or hosting work experience placement/s, and to signpost them to sources of further information and advice.  It should be noted that they are for guidance only and that reference should always be made to the appropriate authority/agency should any specific questions be raised.
